E-Z Bead™ is designed with a built-in flexible strip for uniform spacing around window and door frames or any other point where stucco meets a dissimilar material (e.g., soffits, fascia board, etc.). This flexible spacing strip is lined with a bond breaking tape that allows for two-sided adhesion, eliminating the need for backer rod.

Butt it, nail it, caulk it... it's that E-Z!
Install E-Z Bead™ by placing the flexible strip directly against the opening's jamb and sill. Do not offset 3/8-inch like in standard bead installations. The flexible PVC will act as the backer rod by creating a seal, eliminating the need to install a separate backer rod. Install a drip cap at the opening's head. Once the E-Z Bead™ is set touching the opening's framing, fasten the bead to the wall as outlined in ASTM C-1063, with the metal lath installed on top of the nailing flange (no building paper in between). Upon completion of the scratch, brown and finish coats of stucco or thin veneer stone installation, the joint should be wiped clean and caulk should be applied as per sealant manufacturers specifications.
